You know that moment when the nominations drop and suddenly everyone turns into a film expert? Your timeline is full of people yelling about snubs, defending their favourites like it’s a personal mission, and casually declaring who’s “already won” even though the ceremony is months away.
That’s exactly what the Oscars 2026 nominations feel like. It’s loud, it’s emotional, and somehow it still manages to surprise you even when you think you’ve seen every possible prediction list already. Some films feel inevitable. Some names feel overdue. So what does this Oscars 2026 list actually tell us?
It tells us that this year isn’t playing safe at all. A handful of films clearly walked in knowing they were about to dominate the room. Sinners are everywhere. Frankenstein is everywhere. One Battle After Another feels like it’s quietly aiming for the top prize without making too much noise about it.
But at the same time, there’s something really nice about how emotional this list feels. Hamnet and Sentimental Value sitting next to massive titles like Avatar and F1 says a lot about the kind of year it’s been for cinema, loud stories and small, personal ones all fighting for space.
Now it’s just the waiting game. The predictions, the debates, the “this was robbed” posts, and the inevitable moment when everyone pretends they always saw the winners coming.
Which is exactly how Oscars season is supposed to feel.
