Colman Domingo Joins Wicked: Part Two as the Cowardly Lion

The highly anticipated sequel to Ariana Grande's Hit movie, Wicked: For Good, has a new voice for its iconic character. The film would continue the story of Elphaba and Glinda, going beyond the academic setting and adding layers to the characters’ development.
Adding to the excitement among fans is the reveal of Colman Domingo's addition to the cast as the voice of The Cowardly Lion.
Casting Reveal
The director, Jon M. Chu, teased that he had texted a big Hollywood star on Instagram for the role. This piqued the fans' interest in the voicing.
It was officially revealed on October 20, 2025, that the role was given to Colman Domingo. The announcement was made through a joint Instagram post by Universal Pictures and Domingo. It was a short video where he lightheartedly held a stuffed lion in front of his face before coming into view.
Who is Colman Domingo?
Colman Domingo has established himself as one of the most respected Hollywood actors. The 55-year-old Emmy winner is known for his roles in Euphoria as Ali, Victor in Fear the Walking Dead.
The actor is conceivably the best choice for the voice of The Cowardly Lion. The history of his work proves that his deep and expressive voice is perfect for both a Humourous and heartfelt role.
The Cowardly Lion’s story
2024’s Wicked introduced The Cowardly Lion as a fearful little cub caged at Shiz University. The devastating events in the imprisonment made him a coward. Elphaba and Fiyero rescue the caged cub. As he grows, he continues to blame Elphaba for his cowardly behavior.
The sequel, Wicked: For Good, continues the story where he is now a fully grown lion. He is still cowardly but is on a journey to the yellow brick road to meet the wizard with his friends, hoping he'll be granted bravery.
Returning cast & release date
The returning cast for Wicked: For Good is Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West), Ariana Grande as Glinda (the Good Witch of the North).
Continuing with Jonathan Bailey as Prince Fiyero, Ethan Slater as Boq, Marissa Bode as Nessarose Thropp, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard of Oz, Bowen Yang as Pfannee, and Bronwyn James as Shenshen.
The continuation explores the strained relationship between Elphaba and Glinda as they are exposed to the harsh realities of Oz.
Wicked: For Good is set to be released in theaters on November 21, 2025. Amazon Prime members can access the movie ahead of time on November 17, 2025.
